The First Touch: Nurturing Newborn Skin with Nature's Softness

Why Gentle, Natural Care Matters for Every Member of Your Family

Bringing a new life into the world is one of those moments that changes everything. As new parents, every choice — from what you feed your baby to what touches their skin — carries real weight.

Our founder knows that feeling from the inside. Her own skin, and the needs of her growing family, were the original reason this formula exists. She needed something she could trust completely — on her own body during pregnancy, and gentle enough for every member of her family from the very beginning. She could not find it on any shelf. So she made it. That was over a decade ago. The formula has been a family staple ever since.

That is the story behind every jar of Elysian Luxe.

Understanding newborn skin: a delicate balance

A newborn's skin is still finding its feet. Unlike adult skin, a baby's barrier is immature — more permeable, more prone to dryness, and more sensitive to what it comes into contact with. Research published by the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses confirms that newborn skin is at particular risk of barrier disruption, and recommends minimising exposure to potentially harmful substances from the earliest days of life. [1]

This is why what you put on your baby's skin matters. Harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and aggressive preservatives found in many conventional baby products can disrupt this fragile barrier — leading to dryness, redness, and conditions like eczema.

At Lunask, we formulate with purpose, not trends. Every ingredient is chosen for what it does for your skin — its nourishing properties, its heritage, its proven gentleness. Nothing unnecessary. Nothing harmful. Ever.

The power of natural ingredients for family skin

Simplicity and purity matter at every age — but they matter most when skin is at its most sensitive. Natural ingredients with a long history of safe, effective use offer real benefits without unnecessary complexity.

Shea butter is the heart of Elysian Luxe, and a cornerstone of West African skincare for generations. Rich in oleic and stearic fatty acids as well as vitamins A and E, it has been the subject of genuine scientific interest for its emollient and skin barrier properties. Research published in the Journal of Oleo Science has examined its fatty acid composition and anti-inflammatory compounds — the same properties that made it a daily staple across West African households long before the clinical literature caught up. [1]

Jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax — its structure closely resembles the skin's own sebum, which is why it absorbs readily and supports the skin's natural balance without heaviness. Avocado and coconut oils bring their own profiles of fatty acids and fat-soluble nutrients, supporting the skin's barrier and leaving it soft and nourished. Every ingredient in Elysian Luxe earns its place.

Heritage and intention: what West African tradition understood

Across West Africa, skincare has never been complicated. Shea butter — sourced from the shea tree, processed by women's cooperatives, passed between generations — was used on skin of every age, in every season, for every need. Not as a beauty product. As everyday care.

That tradition is the foundation Elysian Luxe is built on. Not borrowed for marketing purposes, but genuinely inherited — the starting point for a formula that has been refined over more than a decade of real family use.

When our founder returned to that heritage in search of something she could trust completely, she was not discovering anything new. She was coming home to something that had always worked.

Practical tips for nurturing sensitive skin at every age

Good skin care does not have to be complicated. A few principles go a long way:

Less is more. Sensitive skin — at any age — does not need many products. A gentle cleanser and a pure, nourishing moisturiser are usually all that is needed. Resist the urge to layer.

Keep baths short and warm. Around five to ten minutes in lukewarm water is plenty. Hot water and long baths strip the skin's natural oils and compromise the barrier.

Moisturise on damp skin. Pat skin dry gently, leaving it slightly damp, then apply body butter straight away to seal in moisture. This approach — sometimes called soak and seal — is widely recommended for maintaining the skin's barrier after bathing.

Patch test first. Even with the purest ingredients, a small patch test on a discreet area is always worth doing — especially for skin that is sensitive or reactive.

Avoid synthetic fragrance. It is one of the most common causes of skin irritation. Elysian Luxe is scented only with pure essential oils, used carefully and sparingly.

Our promise: Pure. Proven. Personal.

We believe that care is something you pass on — from generation to generation, from family to family. Lunask was built on that belief. Elysian Luxe carries over a decade of real-world proof, rooted in West African heritage and made for every member of your family.

Not a trend. Not a claim. A product that works, because it had to.
